Flow blue is a style of white earthenware originating from 1820s Staffordshire potters in England. The name comes from the blurred blue glaze caused by the firing process. Most flow blue ware is transferware, with decorative patterns applied using paper stencils on white-glazed blanks, though some were hand painted. The stencils burned away in the kiln. Flow blue glazes range from gray-blue to greenish and inky blue, with vibrant cobalt blue being the most prized. Info courtesy of Wikipedia
